Hey Everybody! It's been a while since I posted. I've been pretty busy wrapping up the last couple of issues of The WEB for DC Comics. Now that I'm done, I gotta bit of news...

I'm now the regular artist on Dr SOLAR Man Of The Atom for Dark Horse Comics. I'm currently working on issue 2 even though solicitation for SOLAR #2 mentions the previous artist. Here's a preview of the splash page for #2. Hope you dig it.

BTW, I'm going to be at the San Diego Comic Con so if you want to stop by and visit, I'm going to be in Artist's Alley @ table DD-20. See you there!

Here's a splash page from The WEB #8. I wanted to have some depth to this page so I chose a slight downshot. What really helped me a lot was a 3d model that I built of the background in Maya. Once I set up the camera angle, I made a screen shot of the 3D background and I brought it in Photoshop. I bluelined it and printed on the board to ink over. I placed some of the cables going off the top of the page in the extreme foreground to really push the depth of the shot. Took a while to get this piece done with the wires, zip-a-tone & all. I think this page came out pretty good.

I thought this panel came out pretty cool. This panel is from The WEB #7. Oracle is on the laptop monitor. I decide to render out the Oracle icon to make her look more like a 3D image instead of a flat 2d line art image like you normally see in the Birds of Prey or Batman books.

I decided to add some halftone dot screen to darken the background. It'll be interesting to see how it'll look in print.

Sorry about not keeping up with my blog. I've been pretty busy working on DC Comics' THE WEB, concept designing for the BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM 2 Video Game and other projects.

As of The WEB #6, I will be inking over my pencils for now on. With Matt Strurges debuting as the new writer, the art style will have a more grittier noirish tone. The WEB #6 comes out tomorrow (2/24). Be sure to check it out. All comments are welcome. I would like to know what you think.

BATMAN Sketch!

It's been a while since I've drawn BATMAN. He's always cool to draw. I always like drawing him stocky, like how Frank Miller did on DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.

I'll always appreciate the 3 year run pencilling BATMAN:Gotham Knights (issues 8-47). I'm very greatful to edior Denny O'Neil for giving me the opportunity to work on GOTHAM KNIGHTS years ago.

3D Cinematics

Here's this 3D Cinematics that I did for BottleRocket Entertainment. I created this cinematic in Maya 3D software. I set up the shots & cameras. I did the basic animation for the animators so they would have a basic idea what the character is doing in the scene and they can do their magic to bring it to life.

I edited the audio and sound effects in AfterEffect. I have to be thankful to my buddy Erol Oksuz for being patient with me when he was showing me how to do cinematics in Maya. I had a great time doing cinematics. It's like taking the next step from Comics to Animatiion. So I put all my studying of storytelling in comics and applied it to 3D Cinematics. This comes close to making a movie. It pretty cool.

Comic Con was a blast! I met a lot of fans and fellow comic book artist like Jamal Igle. I did a lot of commissions and sold a ton of 13 x19 prints like the Watchman piece that's on my blog. It was my top seller. Next to Batman and then Flash. People were digging the preview pages of the WEB One Shot which comes out next month. So over all, it was cool.

I did this painted character study of the WEB and approach it as if it was concepted for a movie or video game. Instead of it looking like spandex, I gave his costume a carbon fiber look. It was fun to paint.

DC's Red Circle One Shot - The WEB!

I guess the cat's out of the bag... I'm working on one of the Red Circle One Shots...The WEB! And I'm very fortunate to be working with J. Michael Straczynski. I feel it's an honor to be working with him.

I've worked with Denny O'Neil, Devin Grayson, Chris Clairemont, Peter David and other comic writers in the past, but I got to tell you, I really like working from JMS' script. Everything is there in terms of visually and dialogue. Sometime with some scripts, they can be very dry without depth or substance or sometime the storytelling pacing can be off. So as a storyteller, I'll add more panels to slowdown the pacing to play out the story. But with JMS' script, it's all there.

Also Hilary Barta is inking over my pencils. I think that Hilary will do a bangup job. He did a great job inking over my art on BRAVE and the BOLD #25 which is due out July 15.

This is varient cover that I did for IDW a few years ago. I'm pretty happy with it. It was a hit or miss with the likeness of the characters but overall it came out pretty good.

Alien vs. Predator 2: Civilied Beasts Cover

This cover is for the second AvP graphic novel that I penciled. I digitally painted the cover and it was a blast to do it. I painted the cover in '05 and finished penciling the book in '06. The book barely came out this year which sucked 'cause it was suppose to come out in summer of '06. Dark Horse decided to put off publishing until the AvP2 movie came out so it could be sort of a movie tie-in, in though it has nothing to do with the movie. Oh well, it's their call. I'm just glad the book finally came out.

Hey there! I finally done it. I finally got a blog going. Buddies of mine who have blogs have bugged me for years to get a blog going and I've been putting it off for the longest time. So since I got a ton of stuff (comic art, concepts, etc.) I might as well share...

For my first posting,I thought I'd post the cover of my first creator-owned series ECHOES OF THE DAMNED that I'm illustrating and co-writing with James Pascoe. It is being published by Devil's Due Publishing and the first issue comes out next week. Check it out when you go to the comic book shop.

The ECHOES cover was digitally painted in Photoshop. As you can tell it has a Mignola influence. It was a tough one because I was very picky with the compostition and I must I've done a 100 thumbnails to finally chose this one. I think it came out alright for an first issue cover.
